Sona en Chinmay

Instagramlovers, creativity, art and introduction to a foreign language and culture

10 january 2024

The “Eindhovens Dagblad” published a nice article in early January about the Instagram lovers Sonal and Chinmay. Their story is very special, a unique combination of (social media) love, creativity, art and introduction to a foreign language and culture.

Chinmay has been living here since 2017, Sonal since the beginning of this year. He came to Eindhoven to study and found work here. She had no intention of coming to the Netherlands until she met him via Instagram. He practices origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, and she works on Kirigami, the Japanese art of paper cutting. By following each other on Instagram, a true social media love affair started between them.

Now Sonal Joshi and her husband Chinmay Gore, both from India, are teaching each other a little Dutch. When she comes back after a day at work, she often brings a sentence home with her; a Dutch sentence that she picked up somewhere during the day. She then pronounces it the way she thinks it should be. Together they figure out what the sentence means. Chinmay has already had Dutch lessons at STE Languages and will continue to do so in the future. That will certainly be useful because the couple have stated: “Eindhoven is a keeper!”.
