Election Newspaper in Plain Language
22 october 2025
The House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) elections will be held on 29th October. As many as 2.5 million Dutch people struggle with reading, writing or arithmetic. This makes it difficult to follow the news or understand the elections. Yet, it's crucial for our democracy that everyone can participate.
That's why STE Languages wholeheartedly supports the ProDemos - House for Democracy and the Rule of Law, together with the Reading and Writing Foundation, the ABC Foundation, and Het Begint met Taal (It Begins with Language) initiative to publish the Election Newspaper in plain language. This special newspaper explains in a clear and understandable way how voting works, what the House of Representatives does, and what political parties stand for. The text is written at the B1 level and is suitable for anyone learning Dutch (NT2) or having difficulty with language (NT1).
