There are more Portuguese-speaking countries than you think! Portugal and Brazil are the most obvious that spring to mind but there are also a number of countries on the African continent and elsewhere in the world, such as East Timor or the Cape Verde islands where Portuguese is spoken. Are you currently doing business in Brazil, or will you be in the near future? Maybe you’re looking to buy a house in Portugal? Perhaps you’re looking for new customers within the Portuguese market? If so, then personal relationships and "social talk" are important. There are indeed differences between Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese, such as the use of full, round vowels and the pronunciation of long vowels, which are longer in Brazil. There are also differences in vocabulary; for example if you are talking about a cell phone, it is ‘Celular’ in Brazil but ‘Telemóvel’ in Portugal. So it’s your choice whether it’s Brazilian Portuguese or European Portuguese that you’d like to learn!
