Eindhoven Library and STE Languages working together on language development in Brainport region

3 february 2024

Eindhoven Library and STE Languages will work together, as connecting partners in the Brainport region, in the field of language. Both parties recognise the importance for internationals to be able to speak, read and write the Dutch language well in order to feel more connected to the local population. They are conveying this message through this collaborative project.

The collaboration includes many activities in which the Eindhoven Library and STE Languages will draw on each other's knowledge for the future development and expansion of existing programmes. In addition, a joint needs assessment is being set up regarding learning the Dutch language and integration into society. Both parties are actively reaching out to organisations in the city in the field of language and basic skills. Finally, a further exploration of expertise in multilingualism is planned, which will show how both parties can strengthen each other.

“Eindhoven is a city of many nationalities. Language connects and makes people feel more at home in a new place. If people enjoy language when learning new words, they understand a language much better and faster. We are pleased to join forces with STE Languages,” said Albert Kivits, Director of the Eindhoven Library.

“STE Languages has students from more than 90 different countries. Our mission is to make these students feel as at home as possible in the Brainport region, and in the Netherlands. The Eindhoven Library is a central meeting place that plays an important role in establishing a connection with internationals, migrant workers, and immigrants. We are very pleased with the collaboration,” said Wilfried Gradus RM and Mathilde Lageman, Directors of STE Languages.

The agreement currently runs until 31st January 2025, with the possibility of extension and is based on closed grants.
