Anas Shako (31) came to the Netherlands in 2021. He is still busy learning Dutch, but is already making full use of his new language skills. At Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland’ (Refugee Work Netherlands).  he helps others as an interpreter. He likes to share his story. “My parents moved to Saudi Arabia from Syria. With my Syrian passport I had no chance to study and build a life there. I do have that opportunity in the Netherlands and that is why I came here 'I am a volunteer for the Dutch organization ‘Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland’. As an interpreter, I help other refugees with translations between Dutch and Arabic. I am still learning myself, but for the people I help Dutch is completely alien. In this way I want to give something back to the Netherlands, the country where I have been given new opportunities.”.

STE Languages and the Diocese of 's-Hertogenbosch have started a collaboration in the field of language training. This will lead to priests from Africa and India fully mastering the Dutch language, which means up to and including C1 level. In recent years, 15 priests from Africa and India have been trained to lead their own parishes in the Diocese. When dealing with parishioners and the community, it is of great importance that the priests master Dutch language skills and learn to speak, listen, write and read correctly, professionally and sympathetically.
